Thanks for Cheering Me up when I was sick....

First of all, I want to thank everyone for cheering me up while I was sick. I stayed home yesterday an extra day, because the doctor suggested it and who am I to argue with the doctor? But I’m such an idiot/sucker – you decide. I got an e-mail from a friend/colleague who works at the public library. They receive a lot of review copies, but aren’t always able to afford it for the system and it’s not worth cataloging the single copies. They usually sell those books and raise money for the library, but decided that they’d give me (my library) first crack at the books. I figured, hey, I’m home, they need to get rid of this, I should go. I’m doing better. I didn’t realize how many books they had and I sat for 2 ½ hours evaluating and choosing the books. (The reactions from the kids were great as they helped me unload the books. Of course it will take months until they’re cataloged and processed.) But the point of this was: I was sick and the 2 ½ hours knocked me out. I’m such an idiot; I should have stayed in bed.

Okay, I’m still sick, but I’m back at work, which means I’m getting better.
But jeez, it sucks going back to work after three days, when you’re not 100%.
On the bright side, I saw how much I’m needed…
“I tried to return the book on Monday (Tuesday, or Wednesday – fill in the day) but you weren’t here.”
“Ms. Famous, where were you?”
“How are you feeling?” (That was nice and unexpected.)
I actually got sick at the worst possible time. (Sorry kids) because all the kids are doing exit projects in both science and social studies. (That mean every student – all 1,200 of them) are working on two research projects besides whatever regular projects they might be doing. I went straight from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. without a break, serviced over 200 students and teachers (lunch, what’s that?) and by the time I left at the end of the day my head was splitting in two and I had to run a bunch of errands. My book truck was overflowing with books to shelve. I did something I hardly ever do and pulled kids out of class to help with me. Came home and collapsed and then had to cook and clean. It’s good the O.C. isn’t on this week, because I didn’t even realize 8 p.m. had come. OTOH, it would be nice to have an episode to look forward too. I did catch most of Tru Calling. It’s a fun show and think I’ll rent the S1 DVDs and catch up on it. I only saw a few episodes last year. There was a commercial for next week’s O.C. Okay, Ryan & Marissa, we know where that’s heading. But Ryan passes Seth in the hallway and knocks him into a locker. Love it when Ryan gets physical with Seth. But Trey… he seems to be preventing Ryan from getting some. Don’t like that!
